Amex Platinum Adds ₹15,000 Taj Credit, Fee Stays Premium

If you’re holding the American Express Platinum Card, there’s a notable upgrade on the hotel side. American Express is introducing a new hotel credit of ₹15,000 annual statement credit at Taj Hotels, up from ₹10,000. That’s a meaningful increase for cardholders who actually stay at Taj properties and can use the benefit fully.

The card’s annual fee remains ₹60,000 + GST, so this is not a cheap card by any stretch. But premium cards live and die by how well their benefits justify the fee, and increasing the Taj credit is a clear attempt to strengthen the value proposition. The new art-themed card design available on renewal is a nice cosmetic touch, though the real story here is the improved hotel credit.

Importantly, the Centurion Lounge access and FHR benefits remain unchanged. That’s good news because those are among the most valuable parts of the Platinum ecosystem for frequent travelers. When a premium card updates one benefit without touching the core travel privileges, it usually means the issuer is trying to sweeten the package rather than overhaul it.

For us as rewards enthusiasts, the question is whether the extra ₹5,000 in Taj credit meaningfully changes the card’s economics. For someone who already uses Taj Hotels regularly, yes, it absolutely helps. For someone who doesn’t, the benefit is much less exciting because unused credits don’t create value on their own.

This is still very much a luxury card, and the fee makes that obvious. But the increase in Taj hotel credit is a sensible enhancement because it targets a real use case rather than adding a flashy but hard-to-use perk. That’s the kind of change premium cardholders generally appreciate.

The bottom line: if you already use the American Express Platinum Card for hotel stays, the higher Taj credit is a welcome improvement. If you don’t stay at Taj Hotels often, the card remains premium and expensive, so the new benefit may not change your decision much.
